How can I download and install the program, the PC/Mac version of the program?
You can download the program on the website of Bible-Dictionary at download menu. There are separate installers for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux.
Installation and run on Windows system:
- 1. Download Windows version from the website which is an exe file to run.
- 2. Start the installer and complete installation.
- 3. After installation you can run the program from “Start menu” or by the icon on the “Desktop”.
Installation and run on Linux system:
- 1. Download Linux version from the website which is a compressed zip file.
- 2. Extract the zip file to a folder you specify.
- 3. To run the program you need Java system on your computer. If you need Java you can install it from www.java.com.
- 4. The "run_linux.sh" file requires run permission with:
chmod +x run_linux.sh - 5. You can run the program from the command prompt with:
sh run_linux.sh
Installation and run on Mac OS X system:
- 1. Download Max OS X version from the website which is a “dmg” file.
- 2. Open the downloaded file in “Finder” which file contains the installer. Run the installer and comlete it.
- 3. To run the program you need Java system on your computer. If you need Java you can install it from www.java.com.
- 4. After installation the program is in “Applications”, you can run it from here.
How can I update the program?
Steps of updating the program is mainly the same as of download. There are two differences:
- First you have to quit Bible-Discovery program.
- You must not delete or uninstall the old version (otherwise your settings or bookmarks may get lost), but only overwrite it.
How can I download modules, Bible translations, dictionaries?
First there are no Bible translations in the downloaded program. When you first run the program you will immediately see the download window where you can choose Bible translations, dictionaries, commentaries, e-books and other modules you need. You can find this download window in the program menu as well.
First you can see the list of recommended downloads. Delete the tick from the boxes of the modules you do not want to download.
By clicking 'ok' you start downloading the chosen modules. You can see where the process is at the download part. If you do not want the recommended downloads, you can choose the modules required one by one.
Downloading free modules
Modules by which you can see 'free' are free to download. If you click on the line of the module you will see an information window where you can start download.
How to download modules which are not free
There are two types of modules which are not free:
- First type: sharewares - you can try it before you buy it.
- Second type: download is possible only after payment.
If you click on the line of the module you will see an information window. If it is a shareware you will see the option to download.
How do I know what changes the new version has?
There is a list of changes on the website with the description of the changes.
How can I install the downloaded modules manually?
Manual installation is not recommended as modules should be downloaded and installed in the program. If you still choose manual installation, you have to do the following: you have to download compressed zip files from the internet. You have to unzip the content of the zip files to the “databases” subdirectory of the previously installed Bible-Discovery program, which is usually at "c:\Program Files\Bible-Discovery". (In Windows one of the ways to unzip files: right click on the file, than “unzip all”) The next time you run the program it will recognize the new modules.
What shall I do if I cannot download the program?
You should try the download from another browser (e.g. FireFox).
Where can I find mp3 audio Bible files which can be played in Bible-Discovery?
As we do not have own audio files you can download them only from other websites.
You can integrate any audio Bible files to the program where the chapters are in separate mp3 files. In this way you can integrate more then 600 audio Bible files from www.faithcomesbyhearing.com or more than 10 from www.audiotreasure.com.
How can I integrate mp3 audio Bible files to the program?
- 1. Download the mp3 audio files from external websites.
- 2. Copy the downloaded mp3 files to a directory (both the PC or Android version)
- 3. Import the audio files through the audio Bible import menu by choosing the appropriate directory where the audio files are.
The program can use the audio files after the import.
I have installed new audio files but the program does not recognize them. What shall I do?
You can update the list of previously imported audio files through the window coming up after playing the audio files. In this way the program imports the audio files again and overwrites previous settings.
How long can I update the program I bought?
If you bought main version 2 you can update until 2.9., if you bought main version 3 you can update until 3.9., but at least for a year. The product number contains all the free downloads and installations of program changes in main versions 2 and 3. This option is worth many times the price of the program as you do not have to pay the development fee of the new versions.
If there is a major version change (from 3.x to 4.0) registered users can upgrade on a discount price.
Those who sign up for a newsletter or give their e-mail address when register are informed about the options of upgrades.
If you do not want to upgrade you can use your installed version until you want to.
After installing the new version do I have to register the previously activated program?
No, you do not have to (except you change main version). Activated modules stay activated afterwards.
